On Friday the 28th of May 2021, Blue Horizon Licensing joined an auction for a good cause in support of The Grace Factory. Amy Westerman started The Grace Factory in 2012 in the hope donating essential items to South African mothers and babies in need. Since 2012, The Grace Factory has donated close to 16 000 items to the less fortunate and hopes to continue doing so in the future.
The Grace Factory partnered up with Mari-Louise to use the blogger’s Instagram platform, Just a Mamma to host the virtual auction. Mari-Louise resides in Pretoria with her husband and is the proud mom of three outgoing girls. Now for the part where Blue Horizon Licensing gets involved; we were thrilled to participate in this wonderful cause by donating a pair of Puma x Barbie sneakers to be included in the auction for The Grace Factory.
On the day of the auction, Mari-Louise encouraged followers to bid on the items available, the Barbie x Puma shoes forming part of the winnings. To generate more traffic, Blue Horizon Licensing shared the original post to our own Instagram story in order for our followers to join in on the bidding. All the profit generated from the auction was donated to The Grace Factory. Mari- Louise raised R5 300 for the Grace Factory as well as raising awareness for this incredible organization.
During the month of May, we also worked with two other incredible organisations. The first organisation is known as Sole2Sole. Sole2Sole is a nonprofit organisation that was started by 13 year old Dario Gouveia and his sister Liana, in 2017. Sole2Sole aims to collect and donate ‘gently-worn’ shoes to those in need across South Africa. To date, this impressive organisation has donated 90 000 pairs of shoes. Blue Horizon Licensing was able to donate 128 pairs of shoes that will be handed out by Sole2Sole on Mandela Day (the 18th of July, 2021). However, Blue Horizon’s donation was not only limited to footwear as we were also able to donate other items such as sleepwear, vests and even backpacks, rounding our total donation to 227 items.
Following on from our donation to Sole2Sole, we also donated an overall amount of 198 items to Christway Religious and Social Services. Christway is a nonprofit organisation based in the South of Johannesburg working towards providing for the needs and wants of the surrounding community. Currently this organisation focuses mainly on pooling donations for the elderly and children. Blue Horizon Licensing donated just under 200 items to the organisation and the items were made up of pieces such as; Barbie t-shirts, winter woolies, pencil cases and backpacks.
Blue Horizon Licensing is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that has given us so much. We are proud of the organisations we have worked with and look forward to what we can work on in the near future.
