Once a year we host our annual Mattel Consumer Products Licensing Summit in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Here we meet with our Licensees and Retailers to offer information on the following year’s plans across our brands. We create a space that encourages innovation, creativity and integration of our brands into their businesses.

This is a project each BHL team member gets involved in, and it becomes a way for us to work together to showcase the amazing work we have achieved, as well as the products we have launched into the market. In Johannesburg and Durban we host a late afternoon event where we present our brand plans, allow for networking and display existing, and inspirational products. In Cape Town with our smaller teams, we host individual meetings with licensees and retailers which allow us to be specific in each brand we present on and on our strategy for that specific partner.

This year, we hosted the Johannesburg Summit at Ferguson on 5th in Illovo. The venue allowed our guests to mingle and network while taking in the view of Johannesburg.

The Durban Summit was held at Little Havana in Umhlanga. We created an Instagram area and encouraged guests to take pictures throughout the day to stand the chance of winning a prize.

Our Cape Town meetings were help at Ideas Cartel in De Waterkant. This was a beautiful work space that encouraged creativity and innovation.

Over and above our brand presentations, we had Khumo Theko from Flux Trends, a company that looks at innovation as a business strategy. Khumo was our guest speak in Joburg and Durban and presented Generation Alpha, Retail Trends, South African Shopping Mall Trend Projections and the importance of inclusivity & diversity in brands.

After 3 weeks of travelling, endless metres of bubble wrap, 6 months of planning and putting our hearts into what we do, I can definitely say that we had a successful 2019 Mattel Licensing Summit. On to the next one!
